Trams formed
the basis of Christchurch’s transport system from the late
1800s, but were finally replaced by buses in 1954. The current tram
route was opened as a tourist attraction in 1995, and is run by
Christchurch Tramways Ltd.
Trambience
uses tram number 244, a 'W2' class tram, built in Melbourne in 1922.
It was brought to Christchuch in 1996.
